My name is Leonie McIlvenny and I have been an educator for 34+ years. Initially a primary school teacher, then teacher librarian I have taught in both primary and secondary schools in the public and private sector in Western Australia.
During my career I have been a curriculum consultant, online course developer, library consultant and ICT Project Manager for the Western Australian Education Department.
I have been involved in a number of innovative programs that have been at the forefront of new thinking in education These include the ASP Infrastructure Trial for the Department of Education (WA) and Teaching Teachers for The Future (a federally funded research project involving universities from around Australia). I now consult to two innovative companies who are leading the change in educational innovation, Vivagogy and Next Learning.
Developing digital resources to support teachers and students has been a key focus for the past 8 years. Details of these projects can be found in my resume. Online resources I have developed include:
* The Research Safari
* The Inspired Learning at Iona website
* Inquiring About the World (an online scientific inquiry unit that is part of the Bachelor of Education Course at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia.
* Studyvibe, a website dedicated to supporting students with their research and study skills.
* The Knowledge Compass
The The Professional Teaching Portfolio Challenge (formerly the AITSL for TLs Challenge) which support teachers to develop a professional teaching portfolio that addresses the Australian Teaching Standards.
My current interests are based on the use of open badges to help credential and capture evidence of the acquisition of 'transversal competencies' and how we can create future-focussed libraries.
